Title: "Let's speak about ISLAM IN Depth"

Presenter: Rashida Joseph has worked within the multicultural sector for the past 30 years in Australia and overseas. At an early age she converted to Islam and has since spent much of her time studying Islam and other religions, most especially Christianity and Buddhism. Her core work now is dedicated to bridging the gaps in understanding between the 'Islamic' and 'Western' perspectives in order to diffuse the misunderstandings brought about by popular culture in both contexts.

Summary: Since September 11, there has been much talk about Islam in the West, and in Islamic cultures much talk about the West. Out of fear, both sides have clung to definitions of God, Authority, Political and Personal liberty that are impinging on our lives in a profoundly divisive way.

This workshop will look at Islam in depth, in a bare bones way, to discuss issues that come up on television, in the Quran, in newspapers, in our churches and in our personal moments as we watch the gap between the West and the Islamic world become larger and more complex. The workshop will take a dialogue format.
