Mentoring Support is a program designed to support young people through friendship with a young adult.

Who is a Mentor?

A Mentor is a "trusted friend and guide."

Mentors are supported to enable a young person to experience a safe, stable and positive relationship with an adult.

Mentors are aged between 20 and 35 years of age.  Old enough to be a responsible and mature influence, and yet young enough not to be perceived as a "pseudo-parent"

Asked to spend time with a young person at least 3 times a month.

Mentors receive ongoing support, training, and group supervision.

Who is a Mentee/Buddy?

A young person aged 6 to 16 years, who is "at-risk" and/or experiencing some significant level of disadvantage.

bulletLive in a family that is in and out of crisis
bulletSiblings who require high levels of support - gives the young person time-out
bulletLacking in self-esteem and/or self confidence.

Activities

bulletMentors and buddies are encouraged to decide what things they can enjoy doing together.
bulletFree or low-cost activities are encouraged
bulletGroup activities - every 1 - 2 months
bulletWeekend camp once a year.
